Tier 10 4-Piece Bonus Changes

Sunday, January 17, 2010 | posted in | 5 comments

From MMO-Champion,

We're not happy with Elemental 4PT10, even with the change Eyonix announced (not requiring Flame Shock for LvB to crit). I think we're likely to completely redo it. We'll try and post soon what we think that change will be so you can make gear choices accordingly.

The Shaman Tier 10 bonus has been redesigned and will no longer reduce the cooldown of Lava Burst or enable Lava Burst to be guaranteed to critical strike without Flame Shock present. Instead successful Lava Burst casts now increase the duration of Flame Shock on the target by 6 seconds.

Please note this is still a work in progress and we may end up with a different or modified bonus before the patch goes live.

Well if you have spent any time on Shaman forums lately you would have no doubt read that the community was not happy with the Tier 10 armor set 4-piece that went live in patch 3.3.  I must say I did not like it myself.  I am going to open this topic up to our readers and would like their input on the bonus as a blue post above proposed change.

I'm wondering how this will work, given that LvB's cooldown is 8 seconds, it might give us 2, 3, maybe 4 times we can forgo a Flame Shock cast, but it's not a set-and-forget kind of thing, which would actually be alot cooler.
Having said that, it's a better bonus than the original one.

Actually, on a timeline, it looks like we would be able to (assuming a perfect rotation with no movement, etc) be able to keep FS up for a great deal of time. Going by the maths, we would lose only a second off FS's remaining DoT time at each LvB cast, which means a fair amount of LvB's per FS cast.

I actually like this bonus more then the original one, it will improve our DPS, haven't calculated how much it will increase but in overall we will see an improvement and this improvement will be better then we had on the one now, that was roughly an increase of 40 DPS. As stated above because of the rotation times we will be able to remove a couple of FS casts.

The other thing to note is that we should be able to roll the DoT much like Shadow Priests (and some other classes) can do. That is to say, pop some temporary buffs and then cast FS. Actually, now I want to do a blog post about that.

These buffs will improve our dps (granted we have "perfect rotation"). I compare our buffs from the T10 set to other classes and it annoys me to no end how everyone gets extra rollface potential while our T10 buffs are minimal (especially since end-game raids are high movement). Perhaps something like an extra DoT effect like 2 pieces can give our lightningbolt a DoT of 40% of it's dmg and 4 pieces will give lavaburst the same thing.

LET US FINALLY ROLL FACE EASIER!!!! So tired of being overlooked.
